Fire Apparatus Repairs and Preventative Maintenance
We know it isn’t always possible to take your apparatus out of service for minor repairs and preventative maintenance service. Our fully equipped service trucks can come to your location for preventative maintenance and most general apparatus repairs. Regardless of the type of equipment; pumper, aerial, tanker, rescue, or any emergency vehicle, we can come to your location. The service department at Defender Emergency Products is trained and equipped to offer a full line of services on most makes and models of fire apparatus. Our technicians are ASE and EVT certified giving you the peace of mind knowing the repairs will be done right the first time.
Our 15,000 square foot service facility located in Farmingdale, NJ is available for major fabrication and repairs. There is also a fleet of well equipped service trucks to provide service at your fire house. We will also provide pick-up and drop off of your apparatus if needed.

Chassis PM Service
Chassis services are performed using a detailed checklist. All deficiencies are noted and assigned a priority based on the severity of the defect. The checklist includes drain and fill of the motor oil, changing of oil filters, fuel filters, and spin on transmission filters. Checking and topping off of all fluids. Air filters are inspected and reported to the AHJ if replacement is required. A complete undercarriage inspection is performed and all grease fittings are greased. All exterior and interior lighting is checked. The air and electrical systems are inspected. The charging system is checked and batteries are cleaned and inspected. On board chargers and air pumps are checked for proper operation. Hinges and latches on all doors are lubed. A complete checklist is available upon request.
Small Chassis PM Service – Gas/Diesel Engine
Small chassis service refers to light duty trucks, vans, cars, etc. where the engines and chassis are smaller and therefore cost less to service. Small Chassis Services are performed using a detailed checklist. All deficiencies are noted and assigned a priority based on the severity of the defect. This service includes changing of the oil, oil filter, fuel filter (diesel engine only), and air filter. It also includes a complete chassis inspection, door and moving parts lubrication, lighting and emergency component inspection. Battery connections are cleaned and batteries are tested. Battery and other ground/power studs are sealed with battery protectant spray. Mileage is recorded and additional maintenance items are recommended as needed per manufacturers specifications. Aerial PM Service
Aerial Services are performed using a detailed checklist. All deficiencies are noted and
assigned a priority based on the severity of the defect. The checklist includes complete
removal of old grease, including a wipe down of all greased locations with mineral spirits.
Fresh grease is then applied to all surfaces that require grease. The waterway is also
cleaned and lubricated. A complete inspection of all aerial structures and components is
performed. All pivot points are greased and cables are lubricated. All lighting and electrical
components are checked. All latches and hinges on the aerial device are lubed. The aerial is
function checked to include time and pressure recordings. All interlocks are tested to

Pump PM Service
Pump PM Service
Pump services are performed using a detailed checklist. All deficiencies are noted and
assigned a priority based on the severity of the defect. The checklist includes a drain and fill
of the pump transmission oil. Inspection and change of autolube (Hale pumps) or greasing
of bearings (Waterous). A complete inspection of the pump, plumbing, and mounting is
performed. All caps and plugs are cleaned, inspected, and lubricated with dry silicone to
prevent the buildup of dirt while lubricating the threads. A vacuum test is performed as per
NFPA spec. The pump is run and all gauges, transfer valve, relief valve, packing, and other
pump related parts are tested for proper operation. A complete checklist is available upon

CAFS PM Service
CAFS or Compressed Air Foam System services are performed using a detailed checklist. All
deficiencies are noted and assigned a priority based on the severity of the defect. CAFS
services include drain and fill of compressor oil and foam pump oil. Changing of
compressor oil filter. Inspection of compressor air filter. Dirty air filters will be reported to the AHJ. Replacement of the oil/air separator filter as per manufacturer’s specification. The
wye strainers for both water and foam are removed and cleaned or back flushed. A visual
inspection is performed including a check for leaks, wear, drive belt condition, and any
other abnormalities. The system is run and operation is tested. A complete checklist is

Generators
Gas/Diesel Generator PM Service
Diesel Generator Services are performed using a detailed checklist. All deficiencies are
noted and assigned a priority based on the severity of the defect. The checklist includes
draining and filling the oil. Changing the oil filters and fuel filters. Generator mounting is
inspected and the system is checked for any signs of damage and leaks. The generator is
run and the output is checked, along with the operation of all lighting and components that

Hydraulic Generator PM Service
Hydraulic Generator Services are performed using a detailed checklist. All deficiencies are
noted and assigned a priority based on the severity of the defect. Changing the hydraulic
filter and checking the fluid condition. Generator mounting is inspected and the system is
checked for leaks. PTO mounting is inspected and checked for leaks. Any drive shafts
associated with the PTO are lubricated and inspected. A complete checklist is available

PTO Shaft Driven Generator PM Service
Shaft Driven Generator Services are performed using a detailed checklist. All deficiencies are noted and assigned a priority based on the severity of the defect. The checklist includes inspecting the PTO and driveline, checking U-joints for play and greasing grease fittings. The generator mounting is inpsected for loose bolts, cracked brackets, etc. The generator is run and the output is checked, along with the operation of all lighting and components that run off the generator. Transmission PM Service
Allison EVS Transmission PM Service
Perform visual inspection of transmission, cooler, driveline, and hoses/lines. Drain fluid from transmission. Remove filter caps from bottom of transmission. Remove and replace all o-rings and gaskets around filter housing. Reassemble filter housing with new o-rings and gaskets. Torque to manufacturer specifications. Road test truck to ensure proper shifting/transmission operation. Note any deficiencies.
Spin-on Style Filter Transmission PM Service
Perform visual inspection of transmission, cooler, driveline, and hoses/lines. Drain fluid
from transmission. Remove filter and replace with new. Refill fluid and road test truck to
ensure proper shifting/transmission operation. Double check fluid level following road
test. Note any deficiencies.
Small Transmission PM Service
Small transmission service refers to light duty trucks, vans, cars, etc. where the
transmissions are smaller and therefore cost less to service. A small transmission service
includes a visual inspection of transmission, cooler, driveline, and hoses/lines. Drain fluid
from transmission. Remove transmission oil pan. Remove filter and replace with new.
Reinstall pan. Refill fluid and road test truck to ensure proper shifting/transmission
operation. Double check fluid level following road test. Note any deficiencies.
Small Equipment
Saws, Gen Lights, Gas Fans, Etc.
Small Engine Equipment Services are performed using a detailed checklist. All deficiencies
are noted and assigned a priority based on the severity of the defect. Equipment services include changing of engine oil ( 4 stroke), replacement of oil and air filters (where
applicable), and replacement of spark plugs. All equipment is disassembled and cleaned as required and run to check for proper operation. A complete checklist is available upon
